Ukrainian-born American beauty Milla Jovovich is an entertainment industry phenomenon. Aside from her onscreen work in films such as The Fifth Element and the Resident Evil-trilogy, Jovovich is also known as one half of fashion design duo Jovovich-Hawk as well as the spokesmodel of cosmetics giant L’Oréal, and in the mid-90’s also established herself a career in music. She is currently the face of Samsonite Black Label and Chilean department store Paris and can next be seen in thrillers The 4th Kind and A Perfect Getaway, due out in 2009.
Congratulations, Milla!

Since Resident Evil: Extinction opened in U.S. cinemas yesterday, I thought it would be appropriate to round up the first reviews on the film. As expected, critics aren’t exactly raving about the film - it currently has a mere 25% “fresh” rating at RottenTomatoes.com - though with only 20 reviews in so far. At IMDb.com, with ca. 600 votes in so far, the film has an approximate 7/10 rating. Excerpts from professional reviews below, full reviews and more at Rotten Tomatoes.

By Brian Orndorf, eFilmCritic:

Extinction also surprised me with its locations, taking the adventure out of dark corridors and shoving it into the harsh sunlight of the desert. This is the best looking film of the series, using unforgiving brightness to its advantage, revitalizing the stale plot by shaking up the climate.

By Josh Larsen, The Naperville Sun:

By now Jovovich, a former model, has the sort of iconic action posing required here down to a science. She knows how to stand with a gun in her hand, while director Russell Mulcahey knows exactly where to position her in the camera frame. Add clever lifts from The Birds, Planet of the Apes and even Cormac McCarthy’s bleak The Road, and you have a rare movie that wasn’t screened for critics yet is actually worth watching.

By Dustin Putman, The Movie Boy:

The good news is that “Resident Evil: Extinction” is about twice as good as its predecessors. That’s not saying much, but give the filmmakers credit for working out a story that is fast-paced and involving rather than fast-paced and lugubrious.
