Afterlife casting news! According to AceShowBiz, actors Ali Larter and Wentworth Miller will be joining Milla Jovovich et al. on the Toronto set of Resident Evil: Afterlife, the fourth installment in the popular zombie film franchise. According to the source, Surrogates-star Boris Kodjoe — a “newly-appointed cast member” himself — revealed the information in a recent interview with Black Film.

While Larter will be reprising the role of Claire Redfield, as first introduced in Resident Evil: Extinction (2007), Miller (Prison Break) and Kodjoe are both newcomers to the film franchise. According to the Internet Movie Database, other rumored cast includes Jensen Ackles (Supernatural), Eva Mendes (We Own the Night, Once Upon a Time in Mexico) and Jason O’Mara (Life on Mars).

Some mildly spoiler-y Kodjoe interview excerpts from AceShowBiz:

“It’s gonna be Milla Jovovich, Ali Larter, I’m the new one, and Wentworth Miller is also in the movie,” Kodjoe gushed. “He’s the lead in Prison Break.” While Larter is expected to reprise her Resident Evil: Extinction role as Claire Redfield, he said Miller will be “playing a guy that we actually locked up when we took over the jail because we weren’t sure if he was one of them or not. He comes into play as we try to find a way to get out with our survivors.”

The 36-year-old further talked about his part in the fourth installment of the Resident Evil franchise. “I play the leader of the survivors in LA,” he shared. “Milla Jovovich’s character, Alice, is roaming the world looking for survivors and she’s wound up in LA, which has been burning for three years. She comes across an LA jail surrounded be these half-dead, uhh…”

Production on Resident Evil: Afterlife, recently began in Toronto, Canada. Death Race- and Resident Evil-director, Milla’s husband Paul W.S. Anderson will be returning to the director’s chair with Milla set to return to the role of Alice. Afterlife is currently being eyed for an August 27 2010 U.S. theatrical release.
