Interesting Horror.com interview with Milla Jovovich from the set of Resident Evil: Extinction in Mexicali, Mexico. In addition to Extinction and its production, Milla talks a little bit about why she was unhappy with Resident Evil: Apocalypse, as well as the unfortunate 2006 sci-fi flop Ultraviolet and why it went wrong. Full article under the cut.
Resident Evil: Extinction star Milla Jovovich’s jokes are really dated now, but they were funny then. It’s June 2006, and she’s referencing the George Clooney rumors that he demands no underling on any movie set should so much as look at him – “Stare at me! It’s in my contract,” she says. Her director, Russell Mulcahy is laughing at Milla’s playfulness: “What are you on?” he asks.
A small group of genre journalists are here at Estudios Churubusco Azteca, watching a scene being shot against blue-screen. That’s not always the most exciting thing to see, but I’d much rather have this memory than one from their recent location shoot in the desert, where temps went to 120.
Right now, Jovovich and two of her costars (Oded Fehr and Spencer Locke) are acting out a dialogue scene set inside the front cab of an Army truck. The story of Resident Evil: Extinction continues Alice’s fight against the evil Umbrella Corp and their lab-engineered super-zombies. At the moment, the beleaguered trio is talking about a red diary they’ve found, which may hold the key to mankind’s salvation.
After a few takes, Jovovich, still in her skimpy costume, takes a few moments to sit with the press and answer those burning questions.

A Resident Evil: Extinction-oriented article and interview with Milla Jovovich from About.com, as conducted at the 2007 San Diego Comic-Con in July. Full article under the cut.
It sounds so cliché to say Milla Jovovich looked radiant at the 2007 San Diego Comic Con, but the very pregnant actress did look absolutely adorable as she maneuvered her way around tables to sit down and chat with the press. Jovovich was in San Diego to promote the third movie of the Resident Evil series -– Resident Evil: Extinction – the final film of the franchise and one she promises will send the series out with a bang.
What’s in this movie that we haven’t seen before?
I think what’s really cool about this franchise is that each film is so different. Because we have different directors on each one, it really gives each film its own world, its own world visually and story-wise – and this film especially. It’s like a whole new world because we had the first one, which is very dark and claustrophobic. It was underground the whole time. And then the second one you have this much bigger scope and the city at night, trying to escape the city. And here it’s really like the end of the world and it’s all shot in daytime. It’s all these very epic scenes. You’ve got these incredible desert sequences. It’s got a completely different look, a completely different feeling.
It’s just very cool because we have these super zombies now who are super fast, super tough, and they’re smart, too. They know how to use a camera and a telephone. And now like undead birds, which is really cool. There’s just a lot of new stuff that you wouldn’t expect to see in the Resident Evil films. It’s really whole new world and there’s lots of really great stuff. I don’t want to give it all away.

Small but interesting article and interview with Milla Jovovich from MTV.com (2006), in which Milla Jovovich talks about the upcoming third Resident Evil movie Extinction and what she thinks went wrong with Resident Evil: Apocalypse in 2004. You’ll also notice from the end of this article that the Extinction script most evidently underwent some rewriting since the interview was conducted. Full article under the cut.
Hated Resident Evil 2? Jovovich Promises Third One Is Rad
Milla Jovovich loves being a mutant — a good thing, considering she’s about to become one yet again, as Resident Evil: Extinction is slated to start production Monday (May 15) in Mexico.
“I just love being typecast; it’s my favorite thing ever,” Jovovich joked in a Valley Girl voice. But seriously, “I don’t think it would be a great sci-fi action movie if there wasn’t some sort of viral mutation going on. You always have to have some crazy virus that gets out there and suddenly infects people with these strange powers.”
Jovovich’s character has gone through so much transformation from the first Resident Evil to the third installment that the actress feels sorry for her.
“Poor Alice is just the queen of mutations,” Jovovich said. “It just keeps going on and on for her.” But there is an upside: “She’s definitely got some crazy new powers in the new movie, I can tell you that much.”

A 2006 article and interview with Milla Jovovich from About.com regarding her work in Kurt Wimmer’s Ultraviolet, as released in U.S. theaters around the time of the article’s publication. Full article under the cut.
Set in the late 21st century, a subculture of humans have emerged who have been modified genetically by a vampire-like disease called Hemophagia. This, without the pesky need for drinking blood, gives them enhanced speed and incredible stamina and a real fashion sense. This divides them from ordinary humans and the world is pushed to the brink of civil war. In the middle of this dangerous crossfire is an infected woman, Violet (Milla Jovovich), who finds herself protecting a genetically engineered nine-year-old boy (Cameron Bright) from being used as the ultimate weapon.
What drew Jovovich to Ultraviolet, she says, is the “touching story” between the badass Violet and the boy clone, Six. She says that in her own personal life she is starting to think about having children and becoming more domestic, and speculated that perhaps her cinematic choices are starting to reflect that. (But, at 30, she still sees herself as “adultish”.)
On working with Bright, Jovovich said that he’s a mix of child and grow-up, but what really impressed her were his hacking skills and the many ways he taught her to cheat at video games. “When I play Age of Vampires, I’m very strategic. I would carefully build a whole city, [then Cameron would come along] and start a war!”
