MovieWeb has additional information on the rumored casting for the upcoming, Paul W.S. Anderson-directed Resident Evil: Afterlife, the fourth installment in the Resident Evil film franchise. In addition to the previously reported Ali Larter, Wentworth Miller and Boris Kodjoe, MovieWeb reports Shawn Roberts and Kim Coates will also be joining Milla on the Toronto set of the film, as will Spencer Locke, thus reprising the role of Extinction’s “K-Mart”. From MovieWeb:
Screen Gems and Constantin Film announced today that Resident Evil: Afterlife, the next installment in the widely successful Resident Evil film franchise has begun production in Toronto, Canada. The fourth film, which will be shot and released in 3-D, is a first in the Resident Evil film franchise. Most of the key creative players, who turned the Resident Evil film franchise into a global phenomenon, will be reprising their roles in Afterlife.
Actress Milla Jovovich returns as the zombie-fighting heroine Alice. Ali Larter reprises her role as Claire Redfield from Resident Evil: Extinction. Spencer Locke, who played K-Mart in Resident Evil: Extinction is also set to return. New to the film franchise is leading man Wentworth Miller, who has signed on as Chris Redfield – Claire’s brother and a popular character from the game series. Shawn Roberts will take over the role of Alice’s nemesis Wesker. Boris Kodjoe and Kim Coates have also been cast.
Anderson offered a small glimpse of what can be expected in the new film: “Alice’s battle with The Umbrella Corporation isn’t finished. Last time we saw Alice, she let them know she was coming after them. It’s time to settle the score.”
As of yet, the casting of Jensen Ackles and Eva Mendes remains unconfirmed, while it is now unlikely that Jason O’Mara will be returning to the film franchise, seeing as Shawn Roberts now looks to be taking over the role of Albert Wesker.
Resident Evil: Afterlife stars Milla Jovovich as protagonist Alice, and is currently being eyed for an August 27 2010 U.S. release. Don’t forget to check out Resident Evil Web for more news and updates on the film and its progress!
Afterlife casting news! According to AceShowBiz, actors Ali Larter and Wentworth Miller will be joining Milla Jovovich et al. on the Toronto set of Resident Evil: Afterlife, the fourth installment in the popular zombie film franchise. According to the source, Surrogates-star Boris Kodjoe — a “newly-appointed cast member” himself — revealed the information in a recent interview with Black Film.
While Larter will be reprising the role of Claire Redfield, as first introduced in Resident Evil: Extinction (2007), Miller (Prison Break) and Kodjoe are both newcomers to the film franchise. According to the Internet Movie Database, other rumored cast includes Jensen Ackles (Supernatural), Eva Mendes (We Own the Night, Once Upon a Time in Mexico) and Jason O’Mara (Life on Mars).
Some mildly spoiler-y Kodjoe interview excerpts from AceShowBiz:
“It’s gonna be Milla Jovovich, Ali Larter, I’m the new one, and Wentworth Miller is also in the movie,” Kodjoe gushed. “He’s the lead in Prison Break.” While Larter is expected to reprise her Resident Evil: Extinction role as Claire Redfield, he said Miller will be “playing a guy that we actually locked up when we took over the jail because we weren’t sure if he was one of them or not. He comes into play as we try to find a way to get out with our survivors.”
The 36-year-old further talked about his part in the fourth installment of the Resident Evil franchise. “I play the leader of the survivors in LA,” he shared. “Milla Jovovich’s character, Alice, is roaming the world looking for survivors and she’s wound up in LA, which has been burning for three years. She comes across an LA jail surrounded be these half-dead, uhh…”
Production on Resident Evil: Afterlife, recently began in Toronto, Canada. Death Race- and Resident Evil-director, Milla’s husband Paul W.S. Anderson will be returning to the director’s chair with Milla set to return to the role of Alice. Afterlife is currently being eyed for an August 27 2010 U.S. theatrical release.
Resident Evil and Death Race writer-director Paul W.S. Anderson has talked to IGN about the prospect of Resident Evil 4, a fourth installment in the successful video-game-to-film franchise following last year’s Box Office hit, Resident Evil: Extinction. Although Anderson would not disclose any details on the film, including whether or not fiancée Milla Jovovich will be reprising her role of Alice, he confirmed to IGN a script is currently in the works. How exciting! From IGN.com:
IGN spoke with director Paul W.S. Anderson today, who gave us the skinny on what’s currently happening with Resident Evil IV. Anderson wrote and directed the first installment and wrote and produced its two sequels.
“I’m writing a script right now. The script side is happening,” Anderson explained. As for which of his many projects in development goes into production first, the filmmaker said, “It’s going to be difficult what’s happening when until the whole SAG [strike] thing is resolved. But that’s something I’m working on right now. Everyone at [game developer] Capcom has had their input into the idea and they’re all very excited. I don’t want to tell you what it is but it’s very exciting.”
He added, “Once again we’re doing it completely with the blessing of the videogame company. We got a lot of flack [on the sequels] for, ‘Why isn’t the movie set in the mansion just exactly like the very first videogame?’ That’s just not progression for me. –”
The filmmaker wouldn’t spill the beans on whether Resident Evil IV would center on Milla Jovovich’s Alice or Ali Larter’s Claire Redfield. “I can’t say right now,” he said, then laughed, “I’m no more secretive than Capcom. I was having a meeting with Capcom and I asked about the future of the Umbrella Corporation. ‘The Umbrella Corporation has many secrets.’ Well, what does that mean!”
