More movie premiere news: The official website for the Toronto International Film Festival has at last confirmed the world premiere for Abe Sylvia’s Dirty Girl, starring Milla Jovovich opposite Juno Temple, William H. Macy, Dwight Yoakam and Jeremy Dozier. In addition to Dirty Girl, Milla also has a second film premiering at this year’s TIFF, namely the anticipated John Curran crime drama, Stone.
The debut screening dates:
• September 10: Stone, 9 PM at the VISA Screening Room – TIFF.net movie page
• September 12: Dirty Girl, 6:30 PM at Varsity 8 – TIFF.net movie page
The 2010 Toronto International Film Festival opens September 9 and runs through September 19.
And there’s more great news regarding the upcoming festival event, as the TIFF website has Milla listed as an “expected guest” at the festival. Milla herself confirmed her festival attendance yesterday via her verified Twitter account @MillaJovovich:
hey! i will b in toronto 4 the festival on the 9th n 10th! (Aug 29)
If the dates hold true, this means Milla will likely be in Toronto for the festival opening and the Stone premiere. The Dirty Girl premiere on the other hand is not until September 12, and is also not listed on the TIFF website as a “Premium Screening” (unlike Stone, and even though director Sylvia as well as many of the film’s other stars are also all expected festival guests), so it’s possible that, with production for Three Musketeers having already begun in Germany and the press tour for Resident Evil: Afterlife, she will not show up for it. Only time will tell, though!

Check out Milla Jovovich as Lucetta in the first poster for John Curran’s crime drama Stone, co-starring Robert De Niro, Edward Norton and Frances Conroy. Stone is currently set to premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival come September and in select U.S. theaters October 8. Poster and official synopsis via Collider.com:
As parole officer Jack Mabry (De Niro) counts the days toward a quiet retirement, he is asked to review the case of Gerald “Stone” Creeson (Norton), in prison for covering up the murder of his grandparents with a fire. Now eligible for early release, Stone needs to convince Jack he has reformed, but his attempts to influence the older man’s decision have profound and unexpected effects on them both.
Stone skillfully weaves together the parallel journeys of two men grappling with dark impulses, as the line between lawman and lawbreaker becomes precariously thin. The film’s superb ensemble features Milla Jovovich (The Fifth Element) as Lucetta, Stone’s sexy, casually amoral wife, and Golden Globe winner Frances Conroy (Six Feet Under) as Madylyn, Jack’s devout, long-suffering spouse.
Set against the quiet desperation of economically ravaged suburban Detroit and the stifling brutality of a maximum security prison, this tale of passion, betrayal and corruption examines the fractured lives of two volatile men breaking from their troubled pasts to face uncertain futures.

Have a look at this incredibly encouraging and positive “review-esque” write-up regarding John Curran’s crime drama Stone from OpposingViews.com. Although Stone‘s production company Overture has blocked the publication of all reviews on the film until its Toronto International Film Festival premiere this September, the reviewer was so impressed with the film (and the cast, including Milla Jovovich, might I add) that he actually contacted Overture to be allowed to say a word on it. Wow! Full article under the cut.
The trailer for John Curran’s Stone (Overture, 10.8) makes it seem like a more-or-less conventional crime melodrama. In the midst of evaluating an apparently psychopathic convict (Edward Norton) regarding an upcoming parole hearing, a retirement-age prison counselor (Robert De Niro) succumbs to sexual favors offered by the prisoner’s scheming wife (Milla Jovovich). We all know where this is likely to go. Exposure, revenge, moral ruin, chaos.
Guess what? It goes somewhere else entirely. And I mean into a realm that, for me, is not far from the one that Robert Bresson mined in the ’50s and ’60s and early ’70s.
This isn’t a “review” of Stone. The request was to hold off until it plays the Toronto Film Festival, but I called Overture publicity this morning and said “you have to relent a bit and let me say a little something.” Stone is some kind of mind-blower, way better than expected. It really steps outside the box. It serves up moral/spiritual issues and past nightmares and demons and asks you, the viewer, to decide where the real morality and salvation lie.

Yesterday, we reported of John Curran’s crime drama Stone being set to premiere at the 2010 Toronto International Film Festival in September. Well, according to Milla Jovovich herself via her verified Twitter account @MillaJovovich, the same goes for Abe Sylvia’s Dirty Girl! From the source:
Jst found out that both of my new films, “STONE” and “DIRTY GIRL” will premiere at the toronto film festival! SO COOL! I’m so happy abt it!
Dirty Girl being part of the TIFF schedule has yet to be officially announced, however this news coming straight from Milla is likely to be confirmed later. Hopefully, this also means Milla will be appearing at this year’s TIFF! Keep your fingers crossed for new pics.
In less exciting movie news, don’t expect to see too many (authorized) pictures of Milla on the Oklahoma City set of Bringing Up Bobby, as Milla says she’s not allowed to post pictures from the production. Bummer.
