“It’s just that I wish that my belly was a little bit more than just, you know, production value.”
- Milla Jovovich in The Palermo Shooting
It’s been a while since we’ve had some proper movie media updates, hasn’t it? Today, however, I’ve updated the gallery and media archive with some site-exclusive Palermo Shooting screen captures and video clips respectively. The Wim Wenders-directed movie premiered last year in Cannes to mixed reviews, and stars Campino, Dennis Hopper and Giovanna Mezzogiorno, while Milla Jovovich makes a cameo appearance as herself in Finn’s fashion shoots.
Regarding the film itself, seeing that more than half of the film was in German and I don’t understand said language, I didn’t always fully comprehend what was taking place (really could’ve used subtitles, haha). However, I was delighted to find that Milla’s cameo was a somewhat bigger than I’d expected, even though her role in the film was limited to Finn’s photoshoots, and she looked amazing in her last month of pregnancy. I also very much appreciated the beautiful scenery in which the film was shot, and personally, Campino really surprised me positively as an actor.

Check out this interesting interview with French actress-model Lou Doillon, as conducted by her longtime friend Milla Jovovich for Interview (US). Although the interviewee here is of course Doillon, her and Milla’s insightful and personal talk tells as much about Milla as it does about Doillon. Full article under the cut.
Lou Doillon
There is little question that Lou Doillon comes from French royalty. Her father is the director Jacques Doillon; her mother is the model, musician, and movie star Jane Birkin; and her half sister is the actress and singer Charlotte Gainsbourg. But this may be the last time a family tree is needed to introduce the 25-year-old Doillon to American shores. Clearly gifted with great beauty, Doillon also happens to be remarkably talented. She has already gone through the model-and-muse track and has increasingly appeared in films and onstage. (Last year she read love letters in a touring one-woman show entitled Lettres Intimes, and she is set to act in the Samuel Beckett play The Image, opening next year in New York City.) Most recently, Doillon has been found camped out in a loft on the Bowery in downtown Manhattan accompanied by her 6-year-old son, Marlowe. Here she’s intent on making her music-a soulful blend of acoustic guitar, ukulele, and singing.
Somewhere between the parties and premieres of the Cannes Film Festival this past May, Doillon’s longtime friend Milla Jovovich sat down with her to talk. The two have a lot in common-acting, modeling, music, motherhood, and fashion design. (Doillon recently began working for British denim label Lee Cooper and will remain with that partnership through 2010; Jovovich continues to crank out sartorial hits with her womenswear collection, Jovovich-Hawk.) They also share a taste for philosophy, literature, and history, none of which would one imagine coming up while the two dress in couture for dinner in the south of France. But Doillon and Jovovich are not your typical partygoers. If they have extra time to talk, they’ll fill it brilliantly.
Milla Jovovich: For Cannes this season, you wore a crown made by Chau-met, and you carried it in a plastic bag. That must feel like a big responsibility.
Lou Doillon: It was my obsession while walking through the whole air-port. I was like, “Don’t forget the plastic bag.” [laughs] If I put my purse down to look at magazines or have a coffee, I was like, “Don’t lose it…”

While there hasn’t generally been a lot of news to report film-wise, today we have some new media and information on some of Milla Jovovich’s recent movie productions, namely The 4th Kind and The Palermo Shooting. Kicking things off with…
… Olatunde Osunsanmi’s fact-based thriller The 4th Kind, Bloody Disgusting recently got a first hi-res look at Milla as Abbey in the film, while the film’s Gold Circle Films page has been updated with some new minimal promotional stills of MIlla in the film. Some will recall the first small promotional still of Milla in the film we posted about on the site already in November 2008. These have all now been added to the gallery, despite the low-res size — hopefully, bigger versions will surface online soon. The film is currently in post-production, pending a 2009 U.S. release. Here’s the film’s synopsis, courtesy of Gold Circle Films:
The 4th Kind is a fact-based thriller involving an ongoing unsolved mystery in Alaska where one town has seen an extraordinary number of unexplained disappearances during the past 40 years and there are accusations of a federal cover up not unlike the claims directed at the circumstances surrounding the infamous Area 51.
In other film news, Wim Wenders’ drama film The Palermo Shooting, in which a pregnant Milla makes a small cameo appearance as herself, premiered in Germany at the Berlin International Film Festival on February 11 2009 and the U.S. at the Berlin & Beyond ’09 Festival on January 20 2009, to regrettably mediocre critical reviews. The gallery has been updated with two new medium-res promotional stills of Milla in the film, a hi-res movie poster (sans Milla), and a handful of medium-res trailer screen captures, while the film’s German-language trailer has been made available for download at our media archive. Enjoy!

Despite the film not winning the Golden Palm, since its Cannes Film Festival premiere on May 24, there’s been a lot of new coverage on The Palermo Shooting and Milla available online. Here’s our small compilation of news and media related to Milla’s part in the film.
Kicking things off with new media, because we all love new media, don’t we? First off, we have the very first hi-res promotional still of Milla in the film, and she looks fantastic! Milla’s segment was shot in Germany shortly after the late September 2007 Resident Evil: Extinction world premiere, hence the noticeable baby bump. Furthermore, Liz was kind enough to send in some small screen captures of a clip from the film; the clip itself is currently available for viewing on YouTube.
In some less pleasing news, Variety critic Todd McCarthy caught the film onscreen in Cannes — and, unfortunately, wasn’t impressed, citing the film as being “nicely shot,” but suffering “from being both pretentious and inconsequential.” Milla is barely mentioned, and only as being “very pregnant.” You can read the review in its entirety at Variety.com.
I think that might be all for the moment in The Palermo Shooting area of things. More media coming up, hopefully already sometimes next week! Stay tuned.

Apologies for the delay in updates, today is the first time in a long, long time that I’ve had a solid internet connection. However, as I’m sure most have noticed, I have not been idle, and have steadily uploaded hi-res footage of Milla at the 2008 Cannes Film Festival, which wrapped up on May 25, to the gallery all week. I’ve just finished adding nearly 500 hi-res photos of Milla’s various Cannes appearances; many thanks to Dale and Liz for sending in some of them!
In addition to updating the existing Cannes albums, I also added some photos of Milla at the festival Dior party on May 23, looking absolutely gorgeous in a ruffled, strapless black mini. Personally, Milla looked fantastic the entire time she was in Cannes! My personal favorite, however, is without a doubt her amazing closing ceremony look, which had my jaw drop to the floor the minute I saw it.

More of Milla at the 61st Cannes International Film Festival! On Saturday, as expected, Milla attended the festival premiere of The Palermo Shooting with the rest of the cast and director Wim Wenders — and my goodness, did she just steal the red carpet or what? This look definitely ranks among my favorites ever; what a beautiful and classy outfit! And where does she get those gorgeous headbands? 76 medium-res photos of her at the event have been added to the gallery.
Furthermore, on May 23, Milla attended the festival Dolce & Gabbana party in Mougins – some of you surely noticed I uploaded the first photos already on Saturday, but I wasn’t able update about it until now. More footage coming soon. Finally, on May 25, Milla was spotted at the festival closing ceremony, looking her best ever — simply flawless. The first 23 medium-res photos of this event at the gallery.
Finally, a big thanks to our regular contributors Dale and Liz for keeping us posted with Milla’s doings in Cannes and for sending in amazing hi-res footage of Milla at the festival! Hi-res footage from these events will be added to the gallery later this week (when I’m not running out of battery). Click on the below links to navigate your way to and through the new footage.
