Big thanks to the ever generous Liz, we’ve been able to update the gallery with a brand new print ad of Milla Jovovich for the Donna Karan “Cashmere Mist” fragrance. Although the photoshoot itself is likely the one from last year, this particular picture is new, not to mention absolutely stunning. The new ad can be found in at least the September 2010 issue of US Vanity Fair. Thanks again to Liz for the scan and heads-up!

“Even though I do other projects, every few years we’re back in this world, and it’s like everyone is family. It’s coming back to a place where we sit at the dinner table and discuss, dream about it, get inspired, ask questions, talk about the characters, what happens next. It’s all very organic.”
- Milla Jovovich

More magazine features! Check out these six hi-res scans of Resident Evil: Afterlife, as featured in the September 2010 issue of horror magazine Fangoria (US). Apart from the zombie ones, none of the featured promotional stills are new, but the article of course is, featuring among other things coverage from the magazine’s unlimited Toronto set visit from last year and outtakes from interviews with director Paul W.S. Anderson, producer Don Carmody, stars Milla Jovovich, Shawn Roberts and Wentworth Miller, and more. Big thanks to Kate @ Resident Evil Web and Liz for sending in their scans!

“It’s very dear to my heart at this point, the whole Resident Evil franchise. I’m definitely lucky to be able to have something like this.”
- Milla Jovovich

Big thanks to our frequent contributor Liz, we’ve updated the gallery today with seven great scans of the Sci-Fi (US) magazine October 2010 issue Resident Evil: Afterlife feature. Although the promotional stills are all such as we’ve seen before, the article features great interview excerpts regarding the film’s production process from director Paul W.S. Anderson and the film’s star Milla Jovovich, definitely worth a read. Particularly interesting is Milla’s description of the working dynamic between her and hubby Paul and how it differs from “the usual”, and how the emphasis in Afterlife is on serving the fans of the film franchise with the best they can offer. Thanks again to Liz for the scans!

Yesterday, we reported of John Curran’s crime drama Stone being set to premiere at the 2010 Toronto International Film Festival in September. Well, according to Milla Jovovich herself via her verified Twitter account @MillaJovovich, the same goes for Abe Sylvia’s Dirty Girl! From the source:

Jst found out that both of my new films, “STONE” and “DIRTY GIRL” will premiere at the toronto film festival! SO COOL! I’m so happy abt it!

Dirty Girl being part of the TIFF schedule has yet to be officially announced, however this news coming straight from Milla is likely to be confirmed later. Hopefully, this also means Milla will be appearing at this year’s TIFF! Keep your fingers crossed for new pics.

In less exciting movie news, don’t expect to see too many (authorized) pictures of Milla on the Oklahoma City set of Bringing Up Bobby, as Milla says she’s not allowed to post pictures from the production. Bummer.

According to the Toronto International Film Festival official site, John Curran’s crime drama Stone, starring Robert De Niro, Edward Norton and Milla Jovovich, will be screened at this year’s festival, running September 9-19. The festival film schedule won’t be locked until August 23, however, so we’ll have to wait until then for specifics. We’ll keep you posted, though.

Stone official description from the TIFF website:

There is no greater pleasure in cinema than watching great actors at work. Director John Curran (We Don’t Live Here Anymore) once again guides top actors to terrific performances in Stone. Delving into the mind of a deranged arsonist and an off-kilter parole officer, this taut thriller pits two generations of Hollywood’s most compelling dramatic actors against each other in a battle of blackmail and emotional manipulation.

Jack Mabry (Robert De Niro) is an unforgiving man, hardened after years of working as a parole officer. Nearing retirement, he takes one last case. The man in question, Gerald “Stone” Creeson (Edward Norton), is a convicted arsonist up for his latest parole hearing, but full of his usual bravado and twisted logic. A decade earlier, he and his cousin broke into his grandparent’s home, murdered them and burned their house to the ground. Now, Stone insists that his beautiful but not-quite-there wife, Lucetta (Milla Jovovich), meet with Jack. Against his better judgment, Jack meets her one whisky-fuelled evening, and it soon becomes apparent that no one involved has pure intentions.

De Niro is riveting endowing his character with a flawed psyche that skews his decision-making and distorts his perspective. Distant and threatening to his own wife (Frances Conroy), he is an aging thug who suddenly finds a spark of light in his life. Norton plays Stone as a fascinating degenerate, kin to his early role in Primal Fear. And Jovovich curdles her character’s sweetness with a dark edge.

With all this acting prowess on display, Curran could be excused for sitting back and letting the performances do all the work. But he pays as close attention to the screenplay (he recently co-wrote Michael Winterbottom’s The Killer Inside Me), and, most impressively, to the sound design. Even with its dangerous and sometimes seamy characters, this is a film of insight, grace and precision.

In related news, WENN.com reports via IMDb that Stone‘s production company Overture Films will be ceasing operations. According to the site, Relativity Media has taken over the company’s marketing and distribution operations, and although the company’s three upcoming films Stone, Let Me In and Jack Goes Boating, will be released as planned, Overture will shut down completely following their release.

Finally, we’ve updated the gallery with two new but small promotional stills of Milla as Lucetta in the film. They’re really very small, but they’re also the first ones we’ve had in a long time; hopefully, better-res ones will surface online soon.
