Resident Evil (2002) full storyline - film details

Resident Evil opens with an unknown man collecting samples of the T-virus and its antivirus into a container in a sealed laboratory. Upon leaving the laboratory, he intentionally allows one of the T-virus sample bottles to break, releasing the virus into the facility's air conditioning. The intelligent super computer monitoring the events in the facility records the T-virus contamination and does as it has been programmed - shuts everything down, isolating the facility from the outside world, and kills the employees working there to prevent further contamination.

As Alice (Milla Jovovich), the story's protagonist, wakes up naked in a shower she has no memory of her past, and as she inspects the house she is in she is only able to find clues of her past life, clues she doesn't understand. The house is suddenly and abruptly raided by a team of special operatives while police detective Matt Addison (Eric Mabius) is found snooping around, and as the team discovers Alice, now revealed to be an Umbrella agent of sorts, suffers of temporary amnesia, she and Matt are taken to a hidden facility inside the house. As the team use a train to access facilities underground, the situation is revealed.

Milla Jovovich, Martin Crewes and James Purefoy. The special ops team, lead by One (Colin Salmon), has been sent on a mission to the Umbrella underground genetic research lab "The Hive", where the super computer Red Queen has shut down everything and killed the lab employees, to investigate why Red Queen has done so with the presumption that the computer has malfunctioned. None of the team members are aware of the T-virus contamination. On their way, they discover another "snooper", Spence Parks (James Purefoy), who turns out to be another Umbrella special agent suffering of amnesia, similarly to Alice.

However, the Red Queen, not having malfunctioned at all, is aware of their presence in the Hive, and, guessing their purpose - to shut the computer down - it begins to ploy against them. Before being shut down it successfully kills most of the team, leaving Alice, Spence, and special ops Rain Ocampo (Michelle Rodriguez), J.D. (Stephen Billington) and Chad Kaplan (Martin Crewes) as the only survivors. As Chad works to shut the computer down, the Red Queen utters what remains one of the film trilogy's most memorable quotations - "You're all going to die down here." And thus, the Red Queen is turned off, and the electricity with it.

Unfortunately, with the electricity off all doors that previously isolated the employees are opened. While the facility staff is presumed dead, the dead staff have contracted the T-virus, which causes genetic mutation of sorts, thus tranforming any living or dead being (animal or man) into a "zombie". With the doors opened the zombies are released and the survivors soon find themselves surrounded by them. They find what seems to be a "surviving" staff member, but as she turns out to be a zombie she bites Rain in the hand (thus contaminating her), and thus they discover not only the effects of the virus, but that the zombies are, indeed, everywhere.

As they flee from the zombies, Alice begins to have more and more flashbacks, and upon entering the office facilities with Matt (as they have been separated from the rest in the heat of battle, during which J.D. is killed), they find Matt's sister Lisa (Heike Makatch) transformed into a zombie, and they have to kill her. Seeing Lisa sparks further memories in Alice, and she realizes she and Lisa were involved in a plan to bring down the Umbrella Corporation by stealing a sample of the T-virus, and that Alice was Lisa's Umbrella contact, the contact Matt is trying to find, thinking he or she deceived his sister.

As the team reunites in the Queen's Chamber, they turn her back on, but with her cirquit-breaker disabled, in case the computer decides to act against them once more. The truth behind the virus is discovered, and the team flees through the tunnels beneath the facility, with the zombies only moments behind. As the zombies make a surprise attack on the team, Rain is further weakened in her already severe state of illness, and Chad Kaplan is separated from the rest, and the team presumes him to have committed suicide or been killed.

Milla Jovovich and Martin Crewes fight back zombies. Alice then remembers a cure, an antiviral for the T-virus, but is unable to find it in the research lab. This revives the memory of the amnesiac Spence, and it is revealed that he was the concealed man of the opening credits, who released the virus into the air. As Alice comes to this conclusion also, Spence turns on the rest of the team and escapes with the antivirals, leaving Alice, Matt and Rain trapped in the research lab. Red Queen then offers to save Matt's and Alice's lives in exchange for Rain's, as her contamination has progressed too far, and the Queen wishes to prevent the spread of the disease. Alice furiously refuses, and Kaplan returns unexpectedly - alive, and uncontaminated - to save his friends.

Alice et al. then decide to make their way to the train, as time is running out for them all - the doors of the Hive have a time limit for closure, after which the survivors would have no way out. As they reach the train, Alice finds what's left of Spence, who has been brutally killed by the Licker, a mutated T-virus creature who feeds and grows in strength on living flesh. The survivors hurry onto the train, unawares that the Licker is following them, and as battle ensues on the train, Kaplan is killed by the Licker, while Matt is contaminated with the mutated T-virus due to a scratch on the arm. Although Matt, Alice and Rain all received the antivirus taken from Spence, Rain's infection has gone beyond cure, and she is transformed into a zombie while on the train, and Alice is forced to put a bullet to her head.

Alice and Matt are then the only Hive survivors, as they exit the facilities in the nick of time, before the doors close as programmed. However, as they enter the mansion they are both captured by Umbrella agents in protective gear, just as Matt begins to feel the effects of his contamination. When Alice next wakes up she finds herself seemingly alone in an unknown laboratory. She exits the building wearing only a white labcoat, and finds Raccoon City in ruins, with newspapers featuring headlines about the undead lying around. She then grabs a shotgun and prepares herself for anything and everything.

Resident Evil: Apocalypse (2004) full storyline - film details

Only 13 hours following the incident in the Hive, the Umbrella head of security orders the Hive to be reopened for another investigation. However, as the doors are opened and special ops in protective gear enter the facilities, they are outnumbered by zombies and killed, and thus the virus is released into the Raccoon City area. Only hours later the city is in turmoil, and Umbrella has opted to isolate the city, leaving remaining civilians in the city at the mercy of the zombies.

Milla Jovovich. The film then returns to the end scene of Resident Evil (2002), in which Alice wakes up in what seems to be an abandoned hospital of sorts. Clothed only in a white labcoat Alice exits the building to find the city abandoned and in ruins, and armed with a shotgun she makes her way forward.

Meanwhile, we are introduced to several new characters. S.T.A.R.S. operatives Carlos Oliveira (Oded Fehr) and Nicholai Ginovaeff (Zack Ward) are teaming up with surviving officials to fight off the zombies. As they seek for refuge from their enemies, with one of the operatives suffering a T-virus infection via a zombie bite, they soon realize the Umbrella Corporation has turned its back on them, using them as puppets in the viral outbreak crisis, which the corporation sees as another experiment.

Elsewhere, detective Jill Valentine (Sienna Guillory) has gotten a firm grasp of the situation, and kills infected people as she goes. With a small group of survivors she enters a church, where they are attacked by numerous Lickers. Alice then makes a memorable entrance by breaking through a church window riding a motorcycle, and methodically takes out the Lickers, one by one. While they move around in Raccoon City the survivors, with Jill as their spokesperson of sorts, begin to question Alice's background - "I'm good, but I'm not that good," - and the experimentation behind Alice's unusual strength and dexterity is revealed.

As the initial evacuation of Umbrella scientist Charles Ashford's daugther, Angela (Sophie Vavasseur), fails, Ashford (Jared Harris) enters the city's surveillance system to locate his daugther, without the permission of Major Cain (Thomas Kretschmann), the Umbrella security executive behind Umbrella's military decisions dealing with the outbreak. Ashford is able to get in touch with both Alice and Carlos, who promise to pick up his daughter at her school, where she is currently hiding, and bring her to safety. Meanwhile, Major Cain has unleashed Project Nemesis, a heavily armed, hidious T-virus mutation, with the mission of killing all S.T.A.R.S. members, Alice included.

As Alice and Nemesis go head-to-head for the first time, Jill is forced to kill her S.T.A.R.S. friend who turns into a zombie after having suffered an infection, while Alice is outnumbered by Nemesis and is forced to flee for her life. As they all gather at Angela's high school, further battle ensues and Nicholai is killed by flesheating, zombie dogs (a reference to the famous prequel dog scene). Angela is carrying samples of the antivirus, as it turns out she has been submitted to experimentation as well, similarly to Alice. It is revealed that Ashford's original intention in developing the virus was not military use but to save his daughter from a genetic disease.

Carlos, though having been infected (previously unbeknownst to the others), survives as he is given the antivirus on time, same as the other survivors. The team realizes they need to get out of the city as Umbrella, now understanding the infection cannot be controlled, have decided to "sanitize" Raccoon City by detonating a five-kiloton precision tactical nuclear device in the city at dawn. Ashford reveals to them there is a helicopter leaving Raccoon City before the explosion, after which he is caught by Cain, who has at all times been aware of Ashford's doings.

Sienna Guillory. The team, now having been reduced down to Alice, Carlos, Jill, cab driver LJ (Mike Epps) and Angela, make it to the loosely guarded helicopter, only to find that it's a trap organized by Cain. When Alice, tormented by flashbacks she doesn't yet understand, refuses to engage in a "battle of evolution" with Nemesis, Cain shoots Ashford, forcing Alice to his will. As Alice reluctantly begins to fight the seemingly much too powerful Nemesis, her flashbacks finally have her realize Nemesis is actually Matt Addison (Eric Mabius), the one other Hive survivor who was scratched by the Licker at the end of the prequel. However, her insight comes too late - Nemesis has been lethally wounded.

Furious at Cain's twistedness, Alice refuses to finish him off, and another fight ensues, in which Nemesis saves Alice from death shortly before being himself crushed to death. Angela, Carlos, Jill, LJ and a mortified Alice enter the helicopter and lift off just before the zombies enter the area, leaving Cain to suffer the consequences of his actions as the zombies approach him. The helicopter leaves the city in the nick of time, but the explosion is too powerful, and the plane crashes.

Upon entering the crash site, Umbrella operatives find Alice's lifeless body, which is taken away to Umbrella's Arklay research facility. There is no sign of any others. In order to reveal the true nature of the Raccoon City events, Carlos and Jill hand a video recording made of the events over to the media, but they are soon discredited thanks to yet another Umbrella ploy. Three weeks later, Alice is revived at the Umbrella research facility, and is allowed to escape by the corporation assisted by Carlos and Jill. Neither of them know, however, that Alice's escape was to Umbrella's liking, as the Nemesis project has now been replaced by the Alice project, with Alice having developed superhuman abilities through the evolution of her T-virus strand. The film ends with the survivors leaving the Arklay research area with Alice looking back from the car window.
