Trivia — back to top

• Milla is left-handed.

• Milla has graced the covers of hundreds of fashion and film magazines, and has modeled for labels such as Mango, Christian Dior, Celine, Strenesse, Versace, Guess, GAP, Revlon, Redken, Etro, Chanel, Donna Karan, Anna Molinari, Calvin Klein – and, of course, L’Oréal, for which she has been the spokesmodel since 1998.

• Milla was voted the Sexiest Movie Star by Empire (Australia) in their September 2002 issue.

• Milla carried out most of her stunts in the three Resident Evil films. She also wanted to run down the side of a building in the memorable action sequence in Resident Evil: Apocalypse, but was only allowed to do so for the last few feet.

• Milla went to the same high school as actress and comedian Christina Applegate. She then made a guest appearance on the 80’s popular American sitcom Married with Children, in which Applegate was a regular cast member.

• Milla sampled assorted sighs, moans and vocals for the Crystal Method’s 2004 track “I Know It’s You” from their album Legion of Boom, a song which was featured in the teaser trailer for Resident Evil: Extinction in 2007.

• There are actually two versions of the music video for “The Gentleman Who Fell”, one of the tracks on Milla’s album The Divine Comedy. As she was not pleased with the first version of the video, another darker one was made. This first choice music video of Milla’s is reportedly based on Maya Deren’s short film Meshes of the Afternoon (1943).

• In 2005, Milla ranked #98 in FHM’s 100 Sexiest Women in the World poll.

• At the age of 11, Milla was photographed by the late noted fashion photographer Richard Avedon for Revlon’s “Most Unforgettable Women in the World” advertisement campaign; indeed, Avedon himself chose Milla for the shoot. This controversial campaign both launched Milla’s modeling career as well as a controversy surrounding her age.

• Milla has been an international spokesmodel for French cosmetics company and beauty mogul L’Oréal since 1998. She continues to represent the company to this day, and was the highest-paid top model in 2004.

• Despite having endeavored in the modeling industry at an early age, Milla has often in later days discouraged modern-day parents from allowing their young children to enter the modeling industry due to its brutality.

• Milla donned her voice to the character of Leeloo in the 1998 video game rendition of Luc Besson’s sci-fi cult hit, The Fifth Element.

• Milla designed her own wedding dress when she married writer-director Paul W.S. Anderson in August 2009.

• Contrary to popular belief, Milla was not first “discovered” by photographer Richard Avedon, but rather by photographer Gene Lemuel. Lemuel took Milla’s first test pictures, which he then showed to photographer Herb Ritts. Ritts then hired Milla for a cover shoot for the Italian fashion magazine Lei (1987), which was followed by an Avedon-photographed cover shoot for Mademoiselle.
